FREEZE DREDGING
Reducing cost by precision.

Take only what’s needed – leave a smaller footprint behind.

Through the unique FriGeo method of Freeze Dredging contaminated sediments can be stabilized in-situ and safely lifted in a frozen state. The dynamic effects of freezing offer both environmental and financial benefits for our clients.

Freeze Dredging is based on the processes of the natural freeze-thaw cycle. When the dredging work has been completed, the material is allowed to thaw for a few days before it can be examined, treated or deposited.

The FriGeo method of Freeze Dredging has been proven effective when applied to oil-polluted sludge. In comparison with conventional methods Freeze Dredging has the advantage of preventing the redistribution of contaminated material during the lifting process. By stabilizing the sediments in-situ contaminated material can be removed without endangering remediation workers or the environment. Since the surrounding frozen sediments effectively isolate the contaminants, the FriGeo method of Freeze Dredging limits direct human contact with hazardous agents.

Freeze Dredging also offers an efficient and safe method for the removal of sludge and debris during the decommissioning of cooling ponds. The impermeable qualities of ice create an effective shield against radiation.
